Be very careful if you make a woman cry, because God counts her tears. The woman came out of a man's rib. Not from his feet to be walked on. Not from his head to be superior, but from the side to be equal, under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved.

How can she be equal if she is to be protected?

If I answered your analogy, it would only address the relationship between civillians and military, and not the relationship between a man and a woman. I maintain that if someone has a perception that an individual needs to be protected, they don't see that individual as equal because they feel that they are unable to protect themselves.

Yes, but what one lacks on one area, it makes up in another. The general pubulous (sp) might percieve a woman as one that needs protective, but there are always many thing that men need from woman. It balances out in the end. Women are better than man at some things, and as surly as the world tunrs, men are better than women at some things. I guess the quote would have been better recieved had the author written an example of both, instead of causing conflict and raising interest by only using a mans point of view. Does that help the slightest bit?

Well let's look at it another way. Let's suppose two people are "equal," yet need need different forms of protection. Let's say opne of us needs financial protection, and the other needs physical protection. I'd say the equality balances out in the end. ...unless I'm overlooking sumpm.
